January has been a busy month for me. I was commissioned to photograph commercial work for DBKL. It was for a tourism commercial spot that interviewed several of Malaysia's most famous people. From Tan Sri Francis Yeoh to Datuk Mokhzani to Serina Hiijas and Sarimah Ibrahim. They shared their views on why it is they loved living in KL. It was a 9 day shoot that took us to all the hottest places in and around KL.

Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, is a prominent business personality in Malaysia, and the eldest son of Malaysian billionaire Tan Sri Dato' Seri Yeoh Tiong Lay. Billionaire owner of YTL, spoke enthusiastically about Malaysia's high speed internet services and about his new 4G Network called YES.

This shoot took place on the roof of Lot 10, on the lawn of a club called Roots.

Datuk Mokhzani bin Tun Dr. Mahatir, chairman of Sepang International Circuit - (has been listed as the 19th richest person in Malaysia by Forbes Asia with an estimated net worth of US$290 million in 2008) Datuk Mokhzani spoke about KL being a top class venue for international events.

We shot this spot in the Philharmonic Theatre in KLCC.

Serina Hiijas, Architectural Design & Masterplanning for Corporate/Commercial Buildings, Institutional Buildings with experience in sustainable design, spoke about KL's finest buildings from historical to modern.

This was shot within the beautiful and serene grounds of Sentul East.

Puan Zaleha, a former TV presenter, spoke about the beauty of KL's lush gardens that are all within the city itself. Available horse riding facilities smack in KL's city centre.

This was shot in the Lake Gardens, aka - Taman Tasik Perdana.

Sarima Ibrahim, TV host spoke about wide range of food, festivals and shopping that KL has to offer. We photographed Sarimah in front of the Tunku Abdul Samaad building.

Jo Kukatas, artist, actress and performer, spoke about KL's artists and theatre. Photographed in the loft in Central Market.

I have had the chance to photograph some Punjabee weddings this year. Punhjabee weddings are so ceremonial and spiritual. I hope to do more next year. Below is a "thanks giving ceremony" usually falls immediately after a Punjabee wedding. The bride and groom and both sides families give thanks by prayers in a temple.

Baby Alanah is as cute as a button. I just want to gobble her up whenever I see her. She's a walking, talking (gurgling), living doll! Makes me wanna have a baby girl! Alanah has Ed Hardy tops, Stella McCartny dresses, CD sandal ... All sorts of goodies in her little huge closet. Lucky baby is a true princes. :)

Jchanet came to me when she was 8 months pregnant. She had walked about too much in Genting and we had to reschedule our shoot to a weekend sooner than we planned. Jchanet was concerned that she would give birth earlier than predicted because she was feeling contractions regularly. True enough, a day after we did our pregnancy photography - Ashley came into this world. Bless her.

Jchanet booked a photo session a month back - we were scheduled to shoot in my studio 22nd September. 5 days before shoot day Jchanet calls me up saying she feels contractions. I panic and we rescheduled the shoot to an earlier date. So I spent the19th September which was a Sunday photographing Jchanet. She had contractions during our session but all went well. Jcahnet gave birth to a beautiful baby girl the very next morning. Phew!

After a long break busy setting up my studio I am finally shooting again. Baby inside was born the morning after this shoot took place, this was the closest call I have ever experienced. Jchanet gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

Wow, can't believe just how fast time has flown by this year. I know everyone always says how fast time flies - well it does. I waited 2 and half years for my studio to be built and now it's built i am excited to start the renovations. However, to my surprise and horror - i have no electric meter and this means waiting for Tenaga Nasional to sort it out for me 3 days before Raya! I am doubtful i will get electric for another week! Delay again.

So i decided to start on the painting of the place. Will have dark grey walls and a black ceiling.

Whilst i get my studio renovations sorted i thought this would be a good time to post some shots i photographed a while back. When my studio opens, i intend on focusing more on photographing women - whimsically & artistically.

Spent Friday morning in a park photographing twins Erin and Emma. Let me tell you, shooting two active little toddlers at one go - not a good idea! I had one little girl run off one direction and another the other way. I had a good 2 hour work out carrying my camera back pack with heavy lenses, I ducked under the monkey bar, jumped over the see saw, ran across the park ahead of the kids just to catch them in action! Foooh!! Madness!

Pregnant and Beautiful with Elaine Chong

I have shot several beautiful women. And many want their pregnancy documented. For Elaine, she wanted a full document of her pregnancy through to her baby turning 1. So we began our Photo Shoot journey together when she was 8.5 months pregnant. Just 2 weeks short of her baby's arrival.

We performed the shoot at her place in Mont Kiara. Elaine wanted something simple done.

We began with something zen like where she wore her yoga pants and sat cross legged on her mat. Peaceful and in her zone i shot this photo of Elaine.

In line with the theme of "simple" I threw a scarf onto her and we proceeded with the shoot.

Then, we moved onto to adding some colors within our composition. I love this shot of Elaine.

It was a wonderful session. 2 weeks later Elaine gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

A Make Over for Mothers

Perhaps i should now talk a little about what else i shoot. Here's a Photo Session i did for a Mommy who wanted to feel hot and sexy again after 2 kids.

This is Shareen, she wanted to mini make over that included hair and make up and a Photo Session. This was one of the several styles shot that day. Playing dress ups and playing with make up is always fun for us ladies. Wardrobe changes and photo sessions - all fun!

Shareen loved the results of our Photo Shoot, she felt re energized like a new woman. She was reminded just how naturally beautiful and sexy she already is. I shots 4 different fashionable styles for her before calling it a wrap. Shareen's husband was delighted with the sexy shots of his gorgeous wife. And now, I hear baby number 3 is baking in the oven. We will soon meet him/her.

I get many clients asking me what these Photo Books are and what good is it to get one done.

Photo Books are a great new modern way of preserving your precious photos. Gone are the days of printing 4 r photos and sticking them to an album. It's not as convenient and fun as a Photo Book. It's just the latest trend in photography preservation.

What is a Family Portrait Session?

A family portrait shoot is a fun experience. So far, every shoot i have done ends up being a fun filled day for photographer as well family members being photographed. Memorable to say the least. This family portrait consists of four generations of women. Great Grandmother, Grandmothers, Mother and baby girl Megan.

People seem to think photo shoots are long and boring. That everyone must sit in a row and sit up straight,smile stiffly at the camera .

Yes there are occasions where that formal portrait is suitable - but most times, I try and let the family have a chill out session, be themselves whilst i shoot around their activity as a family. I personally am camera shy and getting in front of the camera is really a nightmare for me. With this in mind, i remain sensitive to that feeling and try to make those in front of my camera forget that they are being photographed.

People seem to think photo shoots are long and boring. That everyone must sit in a row and sit up straight,smile stiffly at the camera .

I also always bring along all sorts of props to shoots. I try making the environment a family friendly one. Especially when it comes to shooting children. It's a good idea to have plenty of their favorite toys near by or on the set itself. Have it in the picture why not? After all, toys are a big part of any child's life.

Feeding time is really a great time to capture a bonding session between parent and child. In this case, it was time for me to get some shots of Grandma and Megan. So once i found a comfy spot for both baby and Grandma i got my shots.

You can't force children to sit still whilst you get your shot. It's just impossible. So working with them is the best option. Let them dictate what shot happens next. If baby wants to play, let her and soon enough we have plenty of natural play to capture.

I suggest to do what comes naturally for family members. If they are uncomfortable or awkward in front of the camera, chances are the camera will capture it. So i try to make up plenty of games and different positions that are fun to pose naturally.

Gone are the days of sitting up straight and stiff whilst you get your portrait taken.

Hugs, kisses, playtime, laughter even melt downs are considered as a precious moment. Crying is part and parcel of being a baby. Babies cannot help themselves and they will cry when they want to. So you don't need to strike a pose and hold it for the camera anymore, especially when life offers us so many other expressions to choose from. I often get asked by the people i am about to photograph "Sam, what do you want me to do?"

I say "Just do what comes naturally and somehow without even knowing it you're actually already "posing". Just pretend i ain't here."

And soon enough they actually forget i am there pointing my camera their way.

Photo Session with Baby @ 11 Mths

"Hello, my name is Megan and I am almost 1!"

This shoot with Megan was a long day. We shot in 2 sessions. Through me experience, babies tire fast. A photographer really has a small window of opportunity to capture magic shots. In this case with Megan, i split the shoot into 2 sessions. 1 hour before lunch and then 2 hours after Megan's lunch and her afternoon nap. Ah yes, that's another thing to consider - the naps. Sometimes, baby naps run longer than shooting time.

Babies are happiest either after meals or after naps. Check out these sweet shots of Megan, i didn't ask her to pose - how could i she is just 11 months old? So how did i get her to smile to big and sweet? Tricks of the trade eh - i guess you will just have to hire me to photograph your cute baby and find out just how i got her to laugh so much.

Outdoors Shoot for Baby @ 7 Months

This is Daniella, she is 7 months old. I went over to her house to meet her and we did the shoot in her back garden under the trees. It was as usual a very hot day so i decided she should wear this cute well ventilated knit that her Aunt in Albania had sent over to her. I reckon her Aunt will be really happy to see her hard work has been put to good use. More of Baby D to come!!

How I Shoot Baby Photos

This is Aliah, Her parents hired me to photograph her when she was just 3 months old. It was Aliah's first photo shoot. At the time she couldn't crawl or even sit up on her own. In this photo, Aliah's mom is actually hiding behind holding up Aliah.

Photographing babies doesn't have to be stressful for parents. There are many ways of capturing beautiful moments of a baby's life. Nap time is one of them. There is something so serene and peaceful about sleeping babies that words just cannot describe.

This is Aliah now, she is 9 months old. Aliah can now crawl very fast, she stands up on her own and does plenty of baby talk. I arrived at Aliah's home around 10.30am, Aliah was having her lunch pureed carrots and broccoli. I began setting up for our photo session and once Aliah was ready we started with some games.

Aliah was happy to show me all her latest skills. Crawling, talking, laughing, playing... we had a blast.
I placed Aliah on a chair and we played. I did some of my magic tricks and got her to laugh so hard and loud that i managed to get so many good shots and Aliah's personality managed to come through in all her photos.

As we progressed further into the shoot Aliah and i slowly became friends. She had let me into her world. Babies are very intelligent. They have stronger instincts than most adults. They know instinctively who they like and dislike. They aren't always right but they are rarely wrong.

Soon as we became good friends, she let me tickle her and i managed to get even more laughter from this cheeky baby girl.

Soon after she allowed me to strap butterfly wings onto her back. Sometimes babies as young as Aliah do not allow this to be done.

I hope to share my experiences with parents especially those who are contemplating having their baby's photo taken by a professional photographer. Perhaps you worry that shoots maybe too torturous for baby or that your baby is too young open his/her eyes or me to move about or seven it up for shots. My message to you is that when you hire the right photographer who knows how to handle babies and children you are in good hands. Good photographs can be taken of your baby at any age. Be it 1 month old. I have photographed babies that are 3 weeks old. This is a different method of photography all together.

Whenever i get the opportunity to photograph babies, I have to say that I am the lucky one because every baby is so beautiful and special They are a blessing that says life must go on. Babies are promises of a better tomorrow and I love all babies.
